NORA SUES FOR P30-M OVER
Quezon City, May 14, 1999 - A very pained Nora Aunor was shown on TV newscasts last night in the act of filing two libel cases seeking a total of P30 million from the tabloids Bulgar and Bandera.
She filed separate complaints before the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office. In one, the award- winning actress and singer claimed that the tabloid Bandera portrayed her in a sado-masochist intimate relationship with her alleged lover, actor-singer John Rendez.
Bandera's entertainment columnist Peter Ledesma wrote last May 1 that Aunor was a victim of physical abuse inflicted upon her by her alleged lover, John Rendez. The report added that the sado-masochistic aspect of the relationship has reached Aunor's brother Eddie "Boy" Villamayor.
Aunor denied the allegations, including the implication that she had a troubled relationship with her brother.
In the second suit, Aunor took exception to an article by Elmer Antonio, published April 29 by the tabloid Bulgar. Antonio wrote that aside from being made her lover's punching bag, Aunor was a mendicant, having received P15 million for services rendered tot he presidential campaign of President Estrada last year.
Rendez also filed his own P5 million damage suit against the two tabloids.
Ambushed by reporters after filing the cases, Aunor and Rendez would not discuss the true nature of their relationship, claiming "you won't understand."
Rendez merely said: "She's my best friend."
Both Aunor and Rendez claim they suffered mental anguish, sleepless nights, serious anxiety, wounded feelings, besmirched reputation and social humiliation as a result of the reports.
The Superstar also denied being romantically involved with Rendez, who she claims is happy with his wife Frances, currently living Pampanga with John's son.
