`JOSE RIZAL' CORNERS FAMAS
Manila, April 10, 1999 - It was another victorious night for GMA Films the other night when "Jose Rizal" the movie ran away with most of the trophies in the 47th FAMAS Annual Awards.
It came as no surprise to anyone that "Jose Rizal" bagged the Best Picture Award and the Best Director trophy for Marilou Diaz Abaya.
"Jose Rizal" also garnered the following awards: Best Actor (Cesar Montano), Best Supporting Actor (Jaime Fabregas), Best Screenplay (Ricky Lee, Jun Lana, and Peter Ong Lim), Best Cinematography (Rody Lacap), Best Editing (Jess Navarro and Mannet Dayrit), Best Musical Direction (Nonong Buencamino), Best Theme Song (Nonong Buencamino), Best Art Direction (Leo Abaya), and Best Special Effects (Rolly Sto. Domingo).
The other awardees of the evening were Nida Blanca (Best Actress), Anita Linda (Best Supporting Actress). Best Child Actress (Serena Dalrymple), Carlo Aquino (Best Child Actor), Sound), and Roadrunner Network (Best Visual Effects for the movie "Puso ng Pasko").
FAMAS also handed out a number of special annual awards. These are the Flavio G. Macaso Memorial Award, in honor of the first president of FAMAS; the Dr. Jose Perez Memorial Award, the Lou Salvador Sr. Memorial Award, and the German Moreno Youth Achievement Award.
This year's awardees were Leonardo B. Sangalang, Douglas Quijano, Monique Wilson and Jolina Magdangal, and Rico Yan, respectively.
The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Ms. Vilma Santos, now mayor of Lipa City, while the Bukas Palad Award, given for the first time this year, went to Inday Badiday. Bernadette Allyson was "Star in Her Shining Moment," Cesar Montano was "Maginoong Filipino," and Amanda Page was "Face of the Night."
