FLIGHTS, BORDER CROSSING STATIONS FOR TAWI-TAWI
Tawi-Tawi, March 10, 1999 - To accommodate the increase in passenger traffic between Zamboanga City and Tawi-Tawi, Mindanao Express now flies to Tawi-Tawi five times a week, using a 19-seater Beechcraft.
Mindanao Express is a subsidiary of Subic-based Corporate Air, and is the only airline servicing the Zamboanga-Tawi-Tawi route.
Inaugurated in 1996, Mindanao Express is the first airline providing direct flights between major Mindanao destinations like Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, Cotabato, Dipolog, Pagadian and Tawi-Tawi.
The airline is currently offering a promo fare of P1,800 (one-way) on its Zamboanga Tawi-Tawi flights. The regular fare is pegged at P2,175.
Also in Tawi-Tawi, the Bureau of Immigration will soon reactivate a border crossing station in Bongao Port, in support of the increasing commerce and trade between the Philippines and Indonesia. Other border stations will also operate in Tibannan, Davao Oriental and Balut Island in Saranggani Province.
The Indonesian border crossing station counterparts will likewise be reactivated by next month, according to Immigration Commissioner Rufus Rodriguez.
The border crossing system allows passage to Filipinos who use border crossing travel cards in lieu of passports.
The cards, which are issued free of charge, will entitle Filipino travellers to remain in Indonesia for 59 days.
