RP ASIAD TEAM: 268 ATHLETES, 122 OFFICIALS
Manila, Nov. 13, 1998 - The Philippines will send a 390-man contingent composed of 268 athletes and 122 officials to the Bangkok Asian Games next month.
RP delegation chief of mission Pocholo Veguillas announced yesterday that 267 athletes and officials will be subsidized by the Philippine Olympic Committee while the rest will go on their own. The official delegation would be submitted tot he POC general assembly for approval, and "the size might be much less, depending on the outcome of the general assembly meeting."
In the last Asian Games held four ears ago in Hiroshima, Japan, the Philippine contingent was made up of only 97 athletes and 54 officials.
He refused to comment on the decision of athletics chief Go Teng Kok to send only one entry -- Elma Muros-Posadas -- to Bangkok.
"That is the decision of the athletics association. We respect and abiode by that decision because they're in a better position to decide," Veguillas said.
