REVILLA CONFIRMS PROSTITUTION IN SHOWBIZ
Manila, Nov. 26, 1998 - Senator Ramon Revilla confirms the prevalence of prostitution in the Philippine movie industry.
"That's been going on for a very long time. It was there long before I entered the industry," said Revilla, one of the top movie actors in the 60s.
The Cavite solon, however, asked for understanding and sympathy for the entertainers forced to sell their bodies.
"We should give them understanding, because they are victims of the circumstances. We should not castigate them," Revilla said.
The issue of prostitution in show business, however true, should not be the subject of a Senate investigation, according to Revilla.
"Let the Katipunan ng mga Artista ngPelikulang Pilipino (KAPP) take care of it. That's their business," he said.
Another former actor, Senator Tito Sotto, sided with Revilla about not recommending a Senate investigation of the matter.
"So what's new?" he asked. "Even in banks, among flight stewardesses, nurses, and others, whoever wants to do that, we should not meddle. And nobody can prove it," Sotto said.
