INTERNATIONAL YOUTH FOOTBALL RETURNS TO LAGUNA
Sta. Cruz, Laguna, Oct. 31, 1998 - More than 300 teams will compete in the International Youth Football Jamboree which will be held for the second year at the San Luis Sports Village in Sta. Cruz town.
Laguna, winner of five division titles last year, will field close to 200 teams this year in all divisions from its 31 towns and one city.
Defending champions San Pablo City Colleges of the Class A under-16, UP Rural high in Class B under 14, while Barotac Nuevo of Iloilo Province and Sta. Barbara, co-winners of the Class C under-12 and Jamindan Elem. School of Capiz, Class Dunder-10 are all around to defend their titles.
On the women's category, Laguna captured the elementary, high school and the Open divisions last year while Hong Kong won the men's seniors of 40 years old and over.
Laguna Football Association president Angel ''Sandy'' Sandoval is chairman of the organizing committee for the three-day soccerfest while Edward Magalona is tournament coordinator.
The age-group football jamboree is a joint project of Gov. Joey Lina, Laguna Football Association, PFF, Nestle Phils. Inc. with Milo, Adidas, Federal Express, Integrated Waste Management, Inc. and the Philippine Sports Commission.
