RP NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM OFF ON 3-WEEK U.S. TOUR
Manila, Oct. 27, 1998 - The Philippine Basketball Association Centennial Team leaves tody for the United States for a 3-week playing/training tour that's part of its preparation for the Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand this December.
The PBA Centennial Team will play a series of 11 tune-up games with top-caliber National Collegiate Athletic Association teams and will attend a three-day clinic with Tex Winter, the Chicago Bulls assistant coach regarded as the father of the triangle offense.
"This is another step in our preparations for the Asian Games. It won't be any fun out there, doing all the travelling and playing those teams. Our boys will really work their butts out in this trip," said Centennial Team coach Tim Cone on Sunday.
The Centennial Team, made up of the finest professional talents in the country, will travel more than 3,000 kms. in a hectic 15-day schedule before departing back for Manila on Nov. 17 from Minnesota.
The members of the team are Jojo Lastimoso, Alvin Patrimonio, Allan Caidic, Marlou Aquino, Andy Seigle, Edward Joseph Feihl, Kenneth Duremdes, Vergel Meneses, Jeffrey Cariaso, Johnny Abarrientos, Olsen Racela, Dennis Espino and Jun Limpot.
