RP TEAM TO INTERNATIONAL BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Manila, Oct. 24, 1998 - The Philippines will send a 20-man baseball team to Bangkok to participate in the five-nation second Thailand International Baseball Championship set Nov. 2-7.
The Filipinos will compete against teams from Japan, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia and host Thailand to be played at the Queen Sirikit stadium. Japan is represented by Tokai University, Chinese Taipei is bannered by Cooperative Bank and Malaysia is represented by Selangor baseball team.
PABA president Hector Navasero said the event is highly competitive because of the presence of Japan and Chinese Taipei which are known baseball powers in Asia.
Navasero is optimistic of a decent showing by the Filipinos, saying that the members of the team are veteran internationalists.
"The boys have the necessary training and preparation. I am optimistic they will figure prominently in this event," a confident Navasero said.
The event is the second international stint for the team in less than two months since the Triple AAA baseball championship held in Osaka, Japan.
