MBA FINALS: DRAGONS OVER SLASHERS FOR 1-1 TIE
Bacolod City, Oct. 19, 1998 - The Pampanga Dragons were saved yesterday from a second defeat in the Metropolitan Basketball Association's National Finals by Ato Morano, who scored 26 points, including four three-pointers for a final score of 92-86 at the University of St. La Salle gym.
With the best-of-seven finals tally standing at one-all, the MBA National Finals moves over to San Fernando, Pampanga for the next three games starting Wednesday.
The partisan home crowd failed to intimidate the Dragons as they sprinted to an early 13-point lead in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Pampanga team strengthened its lead to as high as 24 points, at 54-30, before settling for 58-39 at halftime.
''I don't want to think of a sweep and ending the series at home,'' said Pampanga coach Aric del Rosario. ''The series will return here (Bacolod). Knock on wood.''
The Negrenses agree. Despite their homecourt defeat, Negros coach Jun Noel said they will try to bring back the series to Bacolod.
