FILIPINOS LEAD WORLD BILLIARDS SERIES
Manila, Oct. 9, 1998 - Two protégées of Sportsmen Jose Puyat and Aristeo Puyat are leading the race for the World Champion title: Player of the Year award, and the $60,000 bonus prize that comes with the title.
The Camel Pro Billiards Series goes to Colorado for the $75,000 Denver 10-Ball Open on October 13-18 with two Filipinos, Francisco "Django" Bustamante and Efren "Bata'' Reyes, in Number 1 and Number 2 slots.
After five tournaments, Bustamante has 445 points and Reyes has 410. American Buddy Hall is No. 3 with 330 points.
There are only 3 tournaments to go before the title is given: the Denver Open, the $60,000 Tulsa 9-Ball Open in Oklahoma on November 3-8, and the $75,000 Columbus 10-Ball Open in Ohio November 16-21. If Bustamante or Reyes wins any of these last three tournaments either could bag the overall title.
Bustamante won the Riviera Hotel Pro 8-Ball Open in Las Vegas. Reyes won the South Jersey 10-Ball Open in New Jersey
