RACHEL ALEJANDRO MATURES, READY FOR BOLD ROLES
Manila, Oct. 23, 1998 - Haji Alejandro's little girl is ready for grown-up roles.
At a recent press conference for her latest movie NOTORYUS, Rachel told reporters that she is keeping her options open as far as bold, dramatic roles are concerned. She's willing to shed her clothes (and her sweet image and personal inhibitions) before the cameras "as long as the project is well put together."
"I'm just an actress. If the role calls for skin, I'll be up to it," Rachel said. "It's just like crying in certain scenes."
Rachel's manager, Girlie Rodis, says in the past her ward has been offered some such projects. A major studio has recently shown interest in Rachel once again as a potential bold actress.
"It's only now that I'm really putting more attention to my movie career," says Rachel, an accomplished recording artist and stage actress. She has another movie on hold, the one where she co-stars with Fernando Poe, Jr.
"I have finished all my scenes in that movie, including dubbing. I'm praying it gets shown because I really worked hardest there," she says. Rachel plays a rape victim in the film.
In "Notoryus," Rachel shows the same sweet image she's been known for, which contrasts perfectly with co-star Aya Medel.
Reporters asked if she's ready and willing to give Aya and the other film sexpots a run for heir money. Her answer is to the point. "Yes, why not?"
Yes, the little girl has indeed grown up.
