CANADIAN "WEB PORN
KING" ARRESTED W/RUFFA, DONITA PICS
Pasay City, Oct. 10, 1998 -
A Canadian was arrested yesterday by a team of government agents on suspicion
of heading a ring of producers and sellers of pornographic materials for
publication by Internet clients around the world.
Trevor Michael Weir was caught by members of the Special Action Unit of the National Bureau of Investigation who raided his operations inside a condominium unit at Sunset View, Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City.
Weir is a computer software technician and website developer suspected of distributing pornographic materials, many digitally altered, including still photographs of Filipino movie stars Ruffa Gutierrez and Donita Rose.
Confiscated from his condo unit were seven powerful desktop computers, printers, scanners, software and compact disks with pornographic files. NBI lawyer Edmund Arugay explained that Weir sent the pornographic materials to subscribers through the Internet.
"This bust is a breakthrough in the campaign against pornography in Cyberspace," NBI Director Santiago Toledo said, noting that it was really difficult to track down Internet smut operators like Weir. Even US authorities are having difficulty with porno materials, he added. The NBI raiders were armed with a search warrant from Judge Nelson Bayot of Pasay City Regional Trial Court.
Television footage shown by almost all channels' evening newscasts showed that Weir surrendered peacefully. He will be charged for violation of the law prohibiting the sale and distribution of smut materials.
