DOLPHY GETS X'MAS WISH:
SON OUT ON PAROLE
Muntinglupa, Oct. 4, 1998 -
Philippine Comedy King Dolphy received an early Christmas gift this year:
a reunion at home with his son Dolphy Junior, who was finally released
from the Muntinglupa National Penitentiary after serving 15 years behind
bars.
Dolphy Jr., 43, was fetched from the Bilibid Prisons compound by his mother. He had originally been sentenced to reclusion perpetua or 40 years' imprisonment by a Quezon City court for burning down the house of actress Mina Aragon. The fire trapped and killed Aragon's mother, son and a housemaid.
President Ramos had commuted his sentence from reclusion perpetua to a minimum of 24 years and a maximum or 29 years' imprisonment.
Prisons Director Pedro Sistoza said the Rodolfo Quizon Jr. was recommended for release by the Bureau of Pardons and Parole for good conduct while in detention.
Quizon Jr. was released together with more than 200 prisoners, all given conditional pardon by the prisons bureau for good conduct.
