NORA'S LONDON PROMOTER SUING
FOR P15-M
Manila, Oct. 3, 1998
- Problems and complications seem to be a normal part of Nora Aunor's colorful
life. Just when everyone thought the Superstar's life would quiet down
after the victory of her compadre and friend President Joseph Estrada,
another issue is hounding her concerning the London concert she was not
able to hold last month.
According to Malaya columnist Frank Mallo, Nora was in the thick of shooting her latest movie SIDHI in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija daily in the weeks preceding her scheduled departure for London.
Her promoter, Annabelle Cueva, had assured her that she did not have to go personally to the British Embassy for her visa. At the last minute, on the day of her flight, she was told to go to the British Embassy personally to get her visa. Nora got hers, but two or three people in her entourage were denied visas. As Nora did not want to take the risk of going alone to a foreign country without a single trusted aide, she decided not to leave.
Malaya reports that Cueva, through her lawyer, sent the actress a demand letter asking to be refunded the advance talent fee Nora had received for the performance, as well as all other expenses incurred in the preparation of the concert: tickets, posters, souvenir program, plane fares to and from London while arranging the concert. The total amount demanded is close to P7.5 million plus a similar amount for legal fees.
Nora reportedly wanted to fight it out in court, but was prevailed upon to find a means to settle the matter amicably. One of the alternatives is to hold another concert at a much later date.
