TYPHOON CANCELS LOCAL, INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS
Manila, Oct. 23, 1998 - Typhoon Babs has caused the cancellation of 14 incoming and outgoing international flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Ten of the flights were due to arrive late yesterday afternoon up to last night.
Cancelled according to reports by local radio stations were flights of Singapore Airlines and Northwest Airlines and arrivals by Swiss Air , KLM , Continental Air Micronesia, Emirates airline, Japan Airlines and Cathay Pacific Airways.
The weather bureau has placed Metro Manila under Typhoon Signal no. 3, which means a tropical cyclone with winds of 100 to 185 km per hour may be expected in the area within at least 18 hours.
At the domestic airport in Pasay, flights to and from Luzon, Bicol and Visayas airports have been cancelled.
Disruption of local and international air traffic is expected to continue today, when typhoon Loleng(international code name Babs) crosses the main island of Luzon, passing very close to Manila with a path that traverses the Central Luzon provinces of Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Bataan and Zambales.
