'BABS' NOW A SUPER TYPHOON
Manila, Oct. 21, 1998 - Typhoon Loleng (international code name Babs) today intensified as its winds and rains started to be felt from Northeastern Luzon to Northern Mindanao.
Now packing center winds of 195 kilometers per hour with gusts of up to 235 kilometers per hour, Loleng was tracked at 4:00 this morning to be 270 kilometers east-southeast of Legazpi City, moving west-northwest at 15 kilometers per hour in the general direction of Bicol.
The eye of typhoon Loleng is expected to be 60 kilometers east of Daet by tomorrow morning.
The typhoon, according to weather forecasters, is likely to gain strength int he next 12 hours.
Typhoon signal no. 4 is over Catanduanes.
Signal no. 3 is over Northern and Eastern Samar, Sorsogon, Albay and the Camarines provinces.
Typhoon signal no. 2 covers Marinduque, southern Quezon province, Polillo Island, Masbate, Western Samar, Biliran and Northern Leyte. Residents of these areas have been advised not to venture out. Those living in low lying areas and along the coast have been told to seek higher ground.
Typhoon signal no. 1 is over Quirino, Isabela, Cagayan, Aurora, northern Quezon, Mindoro, Panay island, Cebu, Bohol, Camiguin, Misamis, Surigao and Agusan.
