RP'S ASIAD DELEGATION BIGGER THAN CHINA'S
Manila, Sept. 23, 1998 - The Philippines will send a 600-man delegation to the Asian Games in Bangkok in December, a bigger group than China's, which is composed of only 500 athletes and officials.
China's sports minister and National Olympic Committee president Wu Shaosou said his country's team will be composed of China's rising sports stars who have been training non-stop since the Hiroshima Asian Games in 1994.
Wu is on a four-day visit to the Philippines with other Chinese sports officials, meeting with their counterparts in the Philippine Olympic Committee and the Philippine Sports Commission.
Sports Commissioner Butch Tuason said the agency is set to sign a bilateral agreement with the visitors for sports exchanges and technology transfer.
"China is very near us and we are very enthusiastic with the exchange program because it will be of benefit to us," Tuason said.
China currently has some 1,000 athletes preparing for the Asiad. The number will be cut in half before December.
