PINOYS IN WORLD JET SKI FINALS
Manila, Sept. 20, 1998 - Three ace Filipino riders will compete in the 1998 Skat Trak World Jet Ski finals on Oct. 11-18, in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
Leading the country's campaign for honors is John Dee, 1998 Rider of the Year, with two local riders Paul del Rosario and Carlo Garcia.
"These three are the best we've had in years, considering the skills and endurance they've shown in the Petron Jet Ski series. We're hoping to make it among the top three this year," says J. V. Borromeo, president of the Jet Ski Association of the Philippines.
Twenty-year-old Dee will compete in the Expert Runabout 785 cc Super Stock class while Del Rosario and Garcia, both 19 years old, will vie in the Expert Ski 785 Super Stock and Expert Sports 785 super Stock respectively.
Last year, Philippine entry Bomboy Ignacio placed the country in the world racing map when he made it into the semifinals of the event.
The Philippine team will be practising from Oct. 8 to get used to the water condition and familiarize themselves with the equipment to be provided by Joe Sidman, Fischetti's Rocketship racing assistant tuner.
"With Sidman around and a better quality of equipment, we are confident the country will achieve a better showing. Hopefully the three will make it into the finals," Borromeo added.
