DOLPHY'S SAN DIEGO SHOW
A NO-NO, SAYS DOC
Manila, Sept. 30, 1998 -
The Filipino community will hold its special night tomorrow without its
special guests of honor: Dolphy and Zsa Zsa Padilla. It would have been
the first public appearance of the Philippine King of Comedy since his
heart bypass two months ago.
Zsa Zsa had announced earlier on GMA's Saksi that she and her live-in partner, top comedian Dolphy, were leaving for California where Dolphy would perform a stand-up routine and receive a special award from the Filipino community. But the trip had to be cancelled on doctor's orders.
Dolphy's physician, Dr. Gary Lopez, put his foot down and stopped the duo from taking the trip.
Here is the letter Dr. Lopez sent to the promoters of the San Diego affair:
"To whom it may concern,
"This is to certify that Mr. Rodolfo Vera Quizon, a.k.a. Dolphy, is under my professional medical care. He underwent Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting last July 30, 1998 and he is now undergoing Cardiac Rehabilitation.
"In this regard, he is deemed unfit to make a long travel to San Diego, California, or perform on stage. I suggest that all trips be postponed one month from this date (Sept. 25, 1998 )."
