IT'S A BOY! AIKO NAMES SON ANDREI
San Juan, Metro Manila, Sept. 10, 1998 - Live-in partners Aiko Melendez and Jomari Yllana were surprised, but ecstatic, when the actress delivered, by Caesarian section, a boy instead of a girl as they had been led to expect by earlier ultrasound tests.
The actress was prepared to name her baby Sophia, and had trained with actor-lover Jomari on the Lamaze method of natural child birth." But doctors decided on the Caesarian section when she was rushed to the Cardinal Santos Medical Center Monday afternoon and hey found the baby in a transverse position," Jomari explained.
Aiko, who was conscious the whole time despite being under general anesthesia (according to Jomari), is now in stable condition and has started to receive visitors.
Among the first to call on the new mother were live-in couple Kris Aquino and action star Philip Salvador.
No marriage plans have yet been announced, although Jomari hinted that they might become husband and wife next year, the delay being due to the marriage last of his older brother Anjo. Superstitious Filipinos frown upon two siblings marrying within the same calendar year.
