SEGRETO IMPALED BY FLYOVER STEEL BAR

Makati City, Sept. 7, 1998 - A steel bar protruding from the new EDSA-Buendia flyover pierced through the chest of balladeer Ric Segreto who was thrown from his motorcycle after hitting a passenger jeepney shortly before noon yesterday.

Segreto, who popularized the song GIVE ME A CHANCE, died immediately. His female companion , Langela Marie Plaza, 18, of Acacia a St., Cembo, Fort Bonifacio, sustained multiple fractures and remains in critical condition at the Ospital ng Makati.

A similar accident in Quezon City claimed the life of actor Jay Ilagan, another motorcycle enthusiast, several years ago.

Ric Segreto was 46.
