RESCUE AND RELIEF WORK FOR ACTOR JUDE ESTRADA
Camp Olivas, Pampanga, Sept. 2, 1998 - Jude Estrada, the actor, is now Jude Estrada, helicopter pilot for real-life dramatic but dangerous relief and rescue operations in lahar and flood-devastated Central Luzon.
Jude, also known as the son of President Joseph Estrada and First Lady Dr. Loi Ejercito-Estrada, will be based in Camp Olivas, PNP Regional Headquarters, to help is disaster relief work, especially when the La Nina phenomenon unleashes strong rains in the next few weeks.
Senior Superintendent Roberto Calinisan, newly-installed regional police director, cited Jude's expertise as a licensed chopper pilot and the actor's genuine concern to help when he volunteered his services to the PNP's disaster work.
Later this week, Jude is scheduled to fly over communities along the slopes of Mount Pinatubo to assess the situation and get a clear picture of the path of the lahar flow when the rains do come.
PNP chief, Director Roberto Lastimoso welcomed Jude's help, as he explained that unlike the Air Force and the other branches of the Armed Forces, the Philippine National Police does not enjoy a long list of licensed helicopter pilots on its roster.
There is yet no word on how his rescue volunteer work will affect Jude's acting career, particularly at this time when several studios have announced plans to star him in action films.
