MOBILINE BEATS SAN MIGUEL,
78-76
Pasay City, Aug. 31, 1998
-Mobiline's Patrick Fan, the smallest man on the court, played the best
all-around game of his professional career last night and powered Mobiline
to a 78-76 victory over San Miguel Beer in the PBA Centennial Cup at the
Astrodome.
Fran knocked in three consecutive three-pointers that transformed the match to a Mobiline show. His example inspired his teammates to a rally that wiped out a 34-41 deficit at the halfway mark to assume a commanding 66-52 advantage.
MVP contender Nelson Asaytono of San Miguel tried to neutralize the Mobiline attack with an avalanche of four 3-pointers in the closing seconds, taking the Beermen to within 76-77, but there was not enough time to recoup.
Mobiline's new import Silas Mills did his share in his debut game, sharing top scoring honors with 26 points, 14 rebounds and four assists. His partner, Artemus McClary, also had 26 points.
Danny Iledefonso led the Beermen with 22 points.
