MBA BUY-OUT DONE, GAMES RESUME NEXT WEEK
Manila, Aug. 13, 1998 - The on-again, off-again Metropolitan Basketball League buy-out is on again, and apparently nearing conclusion.
MBA commissioner Ramon Fernandez announced that the league's unfinished elimination round will resume August 19, and the semi-finals will begin August 22.
The team owners' buy-out of Metroball shares were reportedly concluded Tuesday.
ABS-CBN will pour a lot of technical resources in ensuring the success of the semi-final games' coverage, Fernandez said. Both the Visayas and Luzon games, played the same day, will be aired live one after the other, and would be seen nationwide on ABS-CBN's cable channels.
Fernandez also disclosed that the MBA teams have acquired 10 new players, but he identified only two, both from the defunct Wilkins Distilled Water team of the PBL. Celedon Camaso will join the Manila Metrostars, while Jun Paguinto will wear the Davao Eagles jersey. The rest of the new faces will be signing soon, pending clearances from their mother units.
A more formal, final and official announcement on the Metroball's buy-out scheme is expected in a few days from the teams' lawyers.
