PINAY SINGER MAKES WAVES IN U.S.
Manila, Aug. 25, 1998 - She has been making a name in the United States as an exponent of modern progressive hard rock. Filipina singer Eleanor Academia is described by the US media as a "mega-talented rock goddess-musician" and has been lifting rock music to different heights.
Eleanor is the first Filipino-American recording artist/producer to have had contracts with major labels in the United States, beginning in 1988 when she scored a Billboard Number One hit with her song "ADVENTURE" for Epic/Sony and Columbia Records.
She has also successfully blended her native country's ethnic musical roots with the hard, driving,, Western-oriented rock rhythms. Her works carry a unique sound which attracts a lot of attention from music critics and record producers in America.
Eleanor is also a songwriter, film and TV composer. Her work includes the theme of the soap opera "SANTA BARBARA" and she has composed, produced, and engineered the score for the action film "BLADE BOXER."
She has performed with the likes of Cyndi Lauper (MTV Awards) and recorded with Stewart Copeland (The Police), Maurice White (Earth, Wind and Fire), Nancy Wilson and toured with Ray Parker, Jr.
In 1996, she was named Artist of the Year by Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan.
Although based in the US, Eleanor has been in constant touch with friends in the Philippines, and hopes to do more projects in her native country.
"ORACLE OF THE BLACK SWAN" is her latest album release, under her own outfit Black Swan Records. It features sweeping melodies, gusty vocals, searing guitar work., meticulous rhythms combined with raw energy and power.
