FILM WORLD SHOULD POLICE
OWN RANKS -- ERAP
Manila, Aug. 5, 1998
- President Estrada has urged his former fellow members in the film industry
to police their own ranks, following the arrest of movie actress Alma Concepcion
in Guam on drug possession charges.
The President said members of the Film Academy of the Philippines, the Actors Guild and the officials of the Movie Workers Welfare Federation (Mowelfund) have vowed to heed his appeal.
"Let's give them a chance, I think they'll do it," the President said in an ambush interview about show business personalities in drug cases.
The President pledged to help Concepcion, just like any other distressed Filipino abroad, but emphasized that she will not receive any special treatment.
The President, a former multi-awarded movie actor, stressed that members of the film industry should always maintain an exemplary image before the public and learn to clean up their ranks.
