NEPOMUCENO BAGS GOLD IN ASIAN BOWLING MEET
Taipei, July 27, 1998 - Four-time World Cup bowling champion Paeng Nepomuceno, scored a 10-strike, 286 game Friday for the gold medal in the FIQ Asian Zone Championships at the Chiao-Fu Center in Taipei.
The 41-year-old southpaw ended the six-game showdown with 1362 pinfalls, for a 24-game total of 5088, enough to lead by 41 pins over Australia's Michael Muir.
It was Nepomuceno's third all-events gold int he Asian kegfest, and only the first for the Philippine team. Two years ago, the RP team won only four silvers and one bronze in Korea.
The Filipinos picked up another medal Friday -- a bronze in the women's team-of-five event as Jojo Canare, Ces Yap, Lizette Garcia, Arianne Cerdena and Bong Coo combined for 5860 to rank behind Korea and Australia.
