PBA-PAL RECRUITMENT RULES FOR FIL-AM CAGERS
Manila, July 23, 1998 - The Philippine Basketball Association has joined hands with the Philippine basketball League to improve the rules on recruitment of Filipino-American basketball players.
PBL Commissioner Yeng Guiao and PBA Commissioner Jun Bernardino will be travelling coast- to-coast in the United States soon to establish the groundwork, promote goodwill among the Filipino communities and attract talented Fil-Americans to play in the Philippine professional basketball circuit.
Under the set-up, qualified Fil-Americans 23 years old and above will go to the PBA while the younger players will play in the PBL.
"Once we set up the groundwork, Fil-Americans can negotiate directly with the PBA or the PBL or their respective teams of choice," Guiao said.
The planned US recruiting trip is tentatively set for late August of early September.
