FUND LACK HAMPERS RP ARCHERY TEAM
Manila, July 14, 1998 - The National Archery Association of the Philippines is not sure if its team could participate in the prestigious US National Open from August 1-7. The group still does not know if there would be enough funds to send a full delegation of eight archers to the tournament.
The association's secretary-general, Ligaya Manalang, said the Philippine Sports Commission initially approved a budget of P300,000 which it later raised to P500,000. That amount is enough only to send two male archers and two female archers.
The association claims it could raise an additional P800,000 to add two more archers, two officials and one coach. The target is for a budget of P1.2 million for a full force delegation of 8 archers, excluding officials.
The Philippine delegation, which has gotten good ratings, expects to bag a medal in the US tournament.
