ALASKA BEATS SHELL, POP DROWNS SAN MIGUEL
Quezon City, July 4, 1998 - Alaska Milk rallied in he fourth quarter to slam Formula Shell, 81-77, in the PBA Commissioner's Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
Import Devin Davis sank 27 points and made 15 rebound to push the Milk Kings to a victory that ended a two-game skid. Alaska had enjoyed an 8-game winning streak before losing to Mobiline and San Miguel.
"We really did not want to go into the semis with three straight losses. So we really tried to establish ourselves strongly in the second half," said Alaska coach Tim Cone. "I'm glad the boys had a positive attitude after the losses."
For Shell, the loss meant dropping to a 5-wins, 5-losses record, in a tie with Mobiline.
Meanwhile, Pop Cola recovered from an early game lag and finished strongly, beating San Miguel Beer, 107-101.
