MARK ANTHONY: ONE CASE GOING,
ONE LEFT
Makati
City, July 23, 1998 -
The case of grave threats filed by an American against Mark Anthony Fernandez
is expected to be dropped soon, but the young actor still faces the possibility
of a month in jail and a P5,00 fine for flashing a dirty finger at reporters
and photographers during a court hearing.
Christian Fayette, the complainant, told the Makati Regional Trial Court that the "incident" involving him and Mark Anthony was only a misunderstanding brought about by cultural differences. He had earlier filed a complaint claiming that Mark Anthony pointed a knife at his throat and threatened to hurt him inside a Makati restaurant last April.
The Manila Times reports that Fernandez had earlier offered Fayette P25,000 to drop the charges. Fayette admitted in court that he had a dialogue with Fernandez to settle the case amicably.
However, the actor still faces another case stemming from the "dirty finger" incident. Mark Anthony admitted giving media people the dirty finger because he was angered by their refusal to stop crowding around him for interviews and to take photographs.
