"THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT" RESURRECTS IN AUGUST
Quezon City, July 14, 1998 - The television program which launched hundreds of singers, actors and actresses into successful careers in show business will be back next month, hosted by the same ageless "host of hosts" German Moreno.
More than 1,200 young talents have undergone rigid auditions at the GMA-7 studios in preparation for the return of "That's Entertainment" in its old station Channel 7.
Kuya Germs, as German Moreno is lovingly called by millions, has a big headache trimming down the list of deserving young aspirants to a minimum, "the better to hire only the most deserving."
All applicants who will be chosen will automatically be contract stars of GMA, which will also serve as their manager.
The return of "That's Entertainment" does not surprise the industry, which has seen afternoon TV and radio slots brimming with entertainment-oriented talk shows hosted by actors and actresses like Kris Aquino and Dina Bonnevie, or movie writers like Christy Fermin and talent managers like Boy Abunda.
The election into the highest positions of personalities from the entertainment world also triggered a cross-over not only of audiences but of talent material as well. Families in the upper crust of the economic and political circles no longer frown upon having their children appear as actors, actresses, singers or hosts.
Prime examples are presidential daughters Imee Marcos and Kris Aquino, multi-millionaires Mikee Cojuangco and her sister Mai-Mai.
The very rich and famous, at the same time, now embrace with open arms movie personalities who marry into their families. There's Rio Diaz married to the son of Danding Cojuangco, Vina Morales going steady with Congressman Zubiri, Gretchen Barreto living with the father of her child PLDT top boss Tonyboy Cojuangco.
