ROMNICK'S GAY FLICK RATED PG-13
Manila, July 6, 1998 - "Miguel/Michelle" has the honor of being the first movie reviewed by the new Movie and Television Review and Classification Board under Armida Siguion-Reyna, and it passed with a rating of PG-13, without cuts.
Despite the daring theme of a Balikbayan transsexual portrayed by Romnick Sarmenta, nude and sex scenes between males, the new board of reviewers felt it was suitable for teenagers as the movie theme was treated and executed with respect and humor.
The PG-13 rating without cuts given to "Miguel/Michelle" illustrates the respect and appreciation held by the new board for the work of director Gil Portes and scriptwriter Ricky Lee.
"Miguel/Michelle" will be shown at the Montreal Film Festival in August.
Although focused on the story of a transsexual who seeks love and acceptance from his family and friends, the movie is not purely a gay film. It also appeals to all sectors of modern society as it is basically a family drama, with former Miss Universe Gloria Diaz playing the role of Romnick's mother.
Also starring are Cris Villanueva, Mylene Dizon and Ray Ventura.
The film was produced by a new outfit, Forefront Films, established by executives Nando Singson, Jun Roberto Castro, Pete Cura and Manny Tirona.
