POP COLA DROWNS PUREFOODS, BEERMEN BEAT GINS
Quezon City, June 27, 1998 - Vergel Meneses saved the day for Pop Cola as it defeated Purefoods 84-76 in the PBA Commissioner's Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Hotdogs absorbed their second straight defeat and slipped in ranking to 3 wins and 6 losses.
In the second game, San Miguel Beer beat sister team Ginebra San Miguel by a very slim margin, 92-90.
The Beermen banked on a fourth quarter barrage of 23 points against the Gins' 9 points to post a come-from-behind victory which improved their record to 4 wins and 4 losses.
The Gins now occupy a very low berth int he rankings with a game record of 3 wins and 7 losses.
In other PBA news, Formula Shell was fined P50,000 for failing to inform the PBA that it had released Estong Ballesteros to the Pangasinan Presidents of the Metropolitan Basketball Association.
Shell's Benjie Paras was also fined P10,500 for elbowing Mobiline's Andy Siegle in last Thursday's match won by the Zoom Masters. Paras was ejected in that game, but was not suspended.
