GINEBRA DROWNS PUREFOODS, SHELL STOPS MOBILINE
Pasay City, June 25, 1998 - Defending champion Ginebra San Miguel kept alive its bid to retain the title in the PBA Commissioner's Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome last night by beating Pure Foods 94-77.
The Gins snapped out of a five-game streak of losses, raking only 3 victories in 9 games.
The game was so tilted in their favor that the Gins enjoyed the luxury of benching its import Chris King with six minutes left in the game.
King scored 25 points, while Pido Jarencio led the Gins in the last minutes of the game, to finish off the Hotdogs who were nursing a game card of five losses against only 3 wins.
Jarencio racked 21 points.
Meanwhile, Formula Shell outzoomed the Phone Pals, 97-86, to land in the second spot of the tourney.
The Zoom Masters played so well that they scored a conference-high 60 points in the second half.
