ALL-STAR TEAM GETS COACH
PUMAREN
Manila, June 22, 1998
- Frederick Pumaren of Sta. Lucia topped the balloting for coach of the
Philippine Basketball Association's Selection that will face the Centennial
Team in the league's All- Star games from July 6 to 12.
It was an easy win for Pumaren, who polled way ahead of Senator-elect Robert Jaworski of Ginebra, who got only 693 votes to Pumaren's 847 votes.
San Miguel's Ron Jacobs wound up third with 388 votes, while Mobiline's Eric Altamirano was a far fourth with only 124 votes.
This year, the PBA departed from the tradition of holding the All-Star Game in Manila. Instead, the games will be played out of town, with the first one in Cebu.
On July 9, three imports will beef up Pumaren's squad in the game to be held at the New Cebu Coliseum. The local lineup will be composed of five players who will be eliminated by coach Tim Cone from the 19-man Centennial pool, plus five more players from different teams.
