REYES BAGS $75,000 SOUTH JERSEY BILLIARDS FINALS
Manila, June 17, 1998 - The sports pages of Manila's newspapers proudly bannered the victory of Filipino billiards star Efren "Bata" Reyes in the $75,000 South Jersey 10-Ball tournament of the 1998 Camel Pro Billiards Series.
Reyes defeated countryman Francisco "Django" Bustamante, fellow protege of sportsmen Jose and Aristeo Puyat, before a big crowd at the Expo Center at Pennsauken.
Reyes, trailing 5-8, proceeded to win the last four games to win the match.
The top four finishers of the international tournament, which drew 90 entries, were: Reyes, Bustamante, Paul Potier of Canada and Nick Varner of the United States.
Bustamante also placed second in last month's Shooter's 9-Ball Open, which opened the Camel Pro Billiards Series in Olathe, Kansas. With his two second-place finishes, Bustamante is now ranked Number 1 as the Camel Series goes into the third leg. The Series next plays the $75,000 Charlotte 10-Ball Open in North Carolina in July.
