ERAP'S SPORTS CZAR SEES BETTER DAYS AHEAD
Manila, June 16, 1998 - Carlos Tuason, expected to be named chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission by President-elect Joseph Estrada, vows to eliminate policy conflicts between the PSC and the Philippine Olympic Committee.
In a meeting yesterday with the outgoing PSC officers headed by chairman Philip Juico, Tuason said he will streamline fund releases, which has been the source of conflicts.
"The PSC will eliminate the long and sometimes arduous process where a sports association literally had to beg and haggle with the PSC before getting funds for its programs. The POC will first go over requests by sports associations for financial assistance and endorse the request to the PSC. This way, once the requests reach the PSC, they will have been detailed and scrutinized and could be immediately approved," Tuason said.
To further reduce friction between the POC and the PSC, Tuason said he will see to it that the groups respect each other's turf, with the PSC concentrating on mass-based sports while the POC focuses on elite sports.
