BALLESTEROS SIGNS P8-M DEAL WITH METROBALL TEAM
Manila, June 13, 1998 - The Metropolitan Basketball Association team the Presidents signed up former Formula Shell forward Ernesto "Estong" Ballesteros to a 3-year contract which sources told Malaya sports reporters could probably be worth P8 million.
The 6-foot-5 Ballesteros, a former UST Growling Tiger, was on the injury list, then the reserve list, and finally turned into an unrestricted agent shortly before the signing.
Despite offers from several PBA teams, Ballesteros opted for the MBA, saying it is a big opportunity for him. "I am ready to give my all to prove worthy of the trust and confidence given me by the management of the Pangasinan Presidents," he said.
Ballesteros is expected to liven up Pangasinan's weak lineup, which has seen the team lose its last three games for the MBA's worst win-loss card of 4 wins and 8 losses.
Ballesteros will see action with his new team for the first time Sunday, when the Presidents tackle the Laguna Lakers in San Fernando, Pampanga.
