FVR PREMIERES RIZAL CENTENNIAL MOVIE
Makati City, June 27, 1998 - GMA Network's contribution to the Centennial celebration, the movie "Rizal," will be premiered Sunday, June 28, at Louie's THX with a Special Presidential Screening for President Fidel Ramos.
"Rizal" stars Cesar Montano and is touted to be the biggest film ever produced in Philippine history.
Prints of the movie arrived from Australia recently, hand-carried by producer Jimmy Duavit. GMA Films envisioned a world-class movie that will show the world the immense talent of the Filipino filmmaker.
The movie dramatizes the significant aspect of the colorful life of our national hero. It focuses on his humanity and revolves around the political scenario of the era which led him to write his inspiring novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo.
Historians agree that the novels helped feed the flames of nationalism that sparked the revolution against Spain.
"Rizal" was made possible through institutional support from the PLDT, the Landbank of the Philippines, CAP, Metrobank, RCBC and the National Centennial Commission.
