KRIS REPLACES IMEE IN "ANG PANDAY"
Manila, June 20, 1998 - Imee Marcos, newly elected member of the House of Representatives from the First District of Ilocos Norte, has decided to concentrate on legislative work and begged off from the starring role in "Ang Panday" which would have featured her opposite Presidential son Jinggoy Estrada.
But producer-director Carlo Caparas, creator of the character "Ang Panday" is not worried, because another ex-presidential daughter has jumped in to replace Imee.
Kris Aquino has starred in blockbuster massacre movies "The Myrna Diones Story" and "The Visconde Massacre" directed by Caparas, so it will not be the first time for her them to work together.
San Juan Mayor Jinggoy Estrada, on the other hand, was directed by Carlo in "Kuratong Baleleng" and "The Maria Gonzaga Rape-Slay" for which Jinggoy won a FAMAS Best Supporting Actor trophy.
It will be the 6th "Ang Panday" movie, but the first one to be directed by Caparas. The first four starred Fernando Poe Jr., the fifth had Cavite Governor Bong Revilla in the title role. All have been certified box office hits.
Ricky Lo of the Philippine Star writes that President Cory Aquino has approved the Jinggoy-Kris team-up.
Cory is presently locked in a heated battle against President-elect Joseph Estrada, Jinggoy's dad, over the burial of the late President Ferdinand Marcos, Imee's father.
