JINGGOY-IMEE TEAM IN "ANG PANDAY" SEQUEL
Manila, June 16, 1998 - Director Carlo Caparas and producer-wife Donna Villa announced that San Juan Mayor Jinggoy Estrada and Ilocos Congresswoman Imee Marcos will star in a sequel to the Filipino film classic "Ang Panday" based on characters that Caparas created.
The film, now in final planning stages, will be entered in the Metro Manila Film Festival in December.
According to Malaya's Ethel Ramos, Direk Carlo and Donna were able to convince a reluctant Mayor Estrada to stage a comeback in the "Marita Gonzaga Story" with Sunshine Cruz in the title role. It was soon followed by "Kuratong Baleleng."
Mayor Jinggoy Estrada has just been re-elected by grateful people of San Juan. His father is the country's new President.
"So much is happening to me right now; to my family, especially. Another movie was farthest from my mind. But I have no reason to turn down this offer because it is for children. Tito Ronnie Poe produced about four versions of 'Ang Panday' and they were all successful," Mayor Estrada explained.
"Besides, I really love doing movies. It is not surprising because acting is in my blood. My father was once an actor, remember?" Jinggoy asked in jest.
