5 PILIPINO MOVIES IN TORONTO FILM FESTIVAL
Manila, June 7, 1998 - Fernando Lapuz of Pinoy Showbiz reports that 5 Filipino movies have been selected to the 1998 Toronto International Film Festival in September.
The movies are "Mapusok" (Lust) which stars Rosanna Roces and Julio Diaz. A story of an abused wife written by Ricky Lee and directed by Mel Chionglo for OctoArts Films; second is "Curacha, Ang Babaeng Walang Kapagod-Pagod" (She, Who Never Rests) starring Rosanna Roces as a "torera' (bullfightress) directed by Chito Rono for Regal Entertanment; third, "Tatlo Magkasalo" story about lesbianism, starring Rita Avila, Ara Mina and Tonton Gutierrez, directed by Carlitos Siguion Reyna for Reyna Films; fourth is "Gangland" story about local gangs in the Philippines directed by duo Peque Gallaga and Lorenzo Reyes for Viva Films. Starrers are Jason Salcedo, Junell Hernando, Ryan Eigenmann, Gabby Eigenmann and Blakdyak; and fifth is "Sa Pusod Ng Dagat" (In the Navel of the Sea) which was an award winner at the 11th Singapore Film Festival for GMA FIlms, directed by Marilou Diaz-Abaya and starring Jomari Ylana, Chin Chin Gutierrez and Elizabeth Oropesa. This film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival.
