LAKE CALIRAYA TRANSFORMED INTO ECO-TOURISM RESORT
Caliraya, Laguna, May 21, 1998 - Lake Caliraya, 1,200 feet above sea level, will soon be a major tourist destination with the development of an eco-tourism resort and residential complex rising along its banks.
Lake Caliraya is a man-made lake built by American engineers in the 1930s to provide hydro- electric power to the Southern Tagalog region. The Americans also seeded the lake with big- mouth black bass, which continue to proliferate and provide game fishers with year-round weekend excitement.
The latest project to develop the areas around the lake was announced by Sta. Lucia Realty, which aims to build the 200-unit Caliraya Lake Ridge Hotel on the edge of the water. The hotel will have modern amenities like function rooms, lobby bar, coffee shop, cocktail lounge, restaurants, specialty shops, a gym, beauty salons and souvenir shops.
Complementing the hotel is the Caliraya Ridge Marina and Country Club, designed to provide excellent conditions for all kinds of fresh water activities: beach volleyball, fishing, picnics, windsurfing.
Two 18-hole golf courses will be designed by Gary Player and Andy Dye. The golf courses will be part of the Royal Pacific Golf Club Chain.
Camping facilities are also provided, as well as pads for recreational vehicles.
