LUCBAN OPENS PAHIYAS VILLAGE INN
Lucban, Quezon, May 20, 1998 - The town of Lucban now boasts of a 20-room tourist facility which would boost tourism development in the province of Quezon.
The Lucban Pahiyas Village Inn had a "soft opening" with Tourism Secretary Mina Gabor and Lucban Mayor Serafin Dator early this month.
Gabor conceived the idea of building such a structure as a component of the Department of Tourism's development strategy and to tap the vast potential of Lucban. The lack of tourist facilities and lodging houses in Lucban had forced tourists to either bypass the town or commute to nearby Pagsanjan for their overnight accommodations.
"The Pahiyas Inn will serve as a means to maximize year-round opportunities for the economic and social development of Lucban townsfolk through tourism-related activities, which used to be limited to the one-day Pahiyas Festival every May 15," Gabor said.
The inn is set amidst a coconut plantation and flower farm and was provided with P13 million in technical and funding assistance by the DOT.
It typifies a "Bahay na Bato" of the rich folk and the "Bahay Kubo" of the peasants and farmers. There are meeting rooms, food outlets, boutiques, craft demonstrations and other activities meant to encourage the use of the inn for corporate out-of-town conventions.
