SPECIAL CENTENNIAL TOUR PACKAGES FOR JUNE 12
Manila, May 19, 1998 - In line with the Centennial celebrations, selected travel agencies are offering foreign tourists a special tour package as an incentive to visit the country.
Department of Tourism Secretary Mina Gabor announced that the "Kalayaan Tour Special" costs only $571, inclusive of air fare. The tour offers significant events and activities in Philippine history.
The package will include: a trip to Malolos, where the First Philippine Constitution was ratified; a visit to Kawit, Cavite, where the nation's independence was first proclaimed; Biak-na-Bato in San Miguel, Bulacan where the Filipino revolutionaries made a pact to break the shackles of slavery.
Other activities in the package are: a guided tour of the Walled City of Intramuros, a visit to Malacanang Palace, the Metropolitan Museum, and highlighted by the 1998 Grand Centennial Parade to be held in Manila on June 12, Independence Day. The parade will showcase significant events in Philippine history over the last century.
Tourism officials promise that the Philippine floats on Independence Day will rival those displayed at the Pasadena Parade of Roses in California.
In addition to the parade, a Centennial Food Festival will also be held, featuring he diverse cuisines of the country.
Culminating the activities on June 12 will be a grand fireworks display, participated in by five countries.
The next day, there will be a Ball of the Century at the Philippine World Trade Center, with different orchestras and bands playing.
