LINGAYEN GULF PISTA'Y DAYAT FESTIVAL
Lingayen, Pangasinan, May 3, 1998 - Thousands of beach lovers flocked to the beaches of Lingayen Gulf for the annual celebration of Pista'y Dayat (sea festival) which started the first day of May.
The Pista'y Dayat is traditionally a thanksgiving celebration of fisherfolk for their good harvest. This year, it has an added significance with the celebration of Philippine Centennial of Independence.
A colorful fluvial parade participated in by at least a hundred boats will start the festival, which will also feature a tableau of important events in Philippine history. Local menfolk are looking forward to the search for the fairest lass in the Gulf, also known as the Mutya ng Dagat.
With this year's theme of "Ipaglaban ang Kalikasan" dominating the celebration, historical themes are also expected to dominate the kites participating in the kite-flying contest.
Other activities include a fun run, race of fishing boats, drum and bugle parade, an on-the-spot poster-making contest and the search for the lucky visitor.
