PINOY HEADS WORLD CHESS OLYMPIAD APPEALS BODY
Bled, Slovenia, May 26, 1998 - Florencio Campomanes of the Philippines, FIDE Honorary President, was named Chairman of the Appeals Committee of the World Chess Olympiad set for September in Elista, Kalmikya.
Campomanes, who served as FIDE president for 13 years, is generally considered to have contributed immensely to the growth of chess worldwide, especially in the Middle East and Third World countries.
Appointed members of the Campomanes' committee were Japan Chess Federation president Yasushi Matsumoto and US Chess Federation president Don Schultz.
