CENTENNIAL SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN BACOLOD
Bacolod City, May 22, 1998 - The Philippine Centennial Softball Championships will be held May 24-31 in Bacolod City as a tribute to the country's centennial celebration of independence.
Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines president Mario Raymundo yesterday said the tournament will be used to pick the players who will make up the men's and women's national teams in future international tournaments.
The week-long event is organized by Asaphil with support from the Philippine Sports Commission.
Some games will be played in Hacienda Gonzaga, La Carlota Azucarera and in Silay, Negros Occidental.
Competing in the men's division are Cebu, Bacolod, Air Force, Adamson, RTU Mandaluyong and Notre Dame of Cotabato. The lady's division title ill be contested by defending champion Rizal Technological University, Dumaguete City, Rizal, Tangub City, Pampanga and Bacolod City.
The tournament will coincide with the Philippine softball congress and the election of new Asaphil officials.
