FOREIGN SQUADS JOIN CENTENNIAL TRACKFEST
Manila, May 19, 1998 - Seven Asian countries are participating in the National Centennial Track and Field Championships from June 7 to 10 at the Rizal Memorial Track and Field Stadium.
Brunei, host of the 199 Southeast Asian Games, Vietnam, Sabah, Indonesia, China, Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapore are sending teams, which will be a maximum of 15 athletes per squad.
Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association president Go Teng Kok said at least 1,000 local and foreign athletes are expected to be off and running in the athletics event which has been planned to be "worth the celebration of our country's Centennial year."
On the local front, various squads from the air force and the navy have also signed up, along with universities and colleges in Metro Manila.
Brunei's delegation will include six senior athletes, four juniors and two officials, while Vietnam will field three female and five male athletes. Sabah is sending junior and senior male and female athletes.
